Trump's Louisiana outtakes: Nicknames, 'beast,' fake news
President Donald Trump’s main stage address to the American Farm Bureau Federation here this week focused on his border wall and trade, but he often veered from the beaten path during an hour-long speech.
Following are some of best outtakes from the president’s Louisiana visit:
Nicknames: Trump isn’t fooled by Republican U.S. Sen. John Kennedy’s homespun, folksy humor and analysis that has made him a magnet for national media.
The president said First Lady Melania Trump has seen Kennedy on TV and questioned Trump about the Louisiana senator.
“He’s a brilliant guy; very deceiving,” Trump said, noting that Kennedy has a degree from Oxford in England. “This man is totally brilliant.”
“Oxford John,” Trump said. “Oxford John.”
The president also complimented Louisiana Republican U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy (“Incredibly talented man and great doctor”), U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham (“He does a great job”) and U.S. Rep. Garret Graves (“Smart, young, strong”).
