Post office coming back to Downtown Alexandria

October 16, 2018
In The News

For a while now, local business owner Mike Jenkins has made it very clear he wants Downtown Alexandria to thrive. On Monday, Jenkins announced the reopening of a post office downtown. It will be located inside the Commercial Building, one of his many properties, on the corner of Third and Johnston Streets.

The office that was located on the first floor of the Federal Courthouse closed in May. Jenkins said that closure could not have happened at a worse time for the area.

The district has seen a few promising developments lately, as Cenla Technical Community College breaks ground on construction for a new campus and other big businesses lease space in the area.

The public can expect a fully operating office to be located on the first floor of the Commercial Building. Jenkins says he cannot take full credit for the reopening. Clifford Moeller of the Greater Alexandria Economic Development Alliance, US Representative Ralph Abraham and business and historic preservation leaders in Cenla played a role in securing a new partnership with the postal service.
