Lawmakers back suspension of refugee resettlement program
WASHINGTON — Louisiana Republican lawmakers joined House GOP leaders Tuesday in backing moves to suspend a program to resettle Syrian refugees in the United States, citing concerns about whether the refugees would be thoroughly vetted.
Abraham said the administration has yet to respond to a letter he sent in September asking for information about the vetting process.
“These are the same questions the people are asking, and the president has been just as dismissive of their concerns as he has been of mine," Abraham said. "I have no faith that whatever process (the administration) claims to have in place is an effective one."
