‘LaPolitics’: Abraham would run for governor on constitutional convention platform

In yet another signal that Congressman Ralph Abraham will be on the ballot in 2019, the veterinarian-turned-physician told LaPolitics that his potential bid for governor would be anchored by a vow to rewrite key sections of Louisiana’s guiding charter.

State lawmakers are considering their own constitutional convention options during the ongoing regular session. After one week of action, only one measure is moving, House Bill 500 by Rep. Neil Abramson, D-New Orleans, which calls for a limited constitutional convention.

Abraham, for now, is the only potential gubernatorial candidate shining a light on the issue.

“If I decide to run for governor, my top priority would be to call for a limited constitutional convention to make fundamental changes to the way business is done in Baton Rouge,” Abraham says.
