La. congressman introduces new soybean bill to help farmers
Congressman Ralph Abraham introduced a new bill to help farmers access a program designed to neutralize deficits caused by Chinese tariffs Monday.
Farmers have been recently hit hard since President Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese imports.
We're told not all Louisiana farmers had access to this program because many of them have either harvested with nowhere to take their beans or were unable to harvest at all.
Based on this technicality, not all farmers could use the assistance.
Congressman Abraham's bill would close the loophole by allowing farmers who did not take their crop to market the ability to still participate in the tariff relief program.
"Louisiana soybean farmers cannot be left out of the MFP. The problem they are facing is not of their making, and they should not be forced to bear the heaviest burden caused by market disruptions,” said Dr. Abraham, a member of the House Agriculture Committee.
