La. congressman backs transgender troop ban '100 percent'
“Louisiana's only member of Congress on the House Armed Services Committee supports President Trump's decision to bar transgenders from military service.
"I fully support the president's mandate 100 percent," said Congressman Ralph Abraham, R-Alto.
Abraham said those already serving should "be transitioned out slowly" with possibly some compensation.
"It's a readiness issue," Abraham said. "If a man or woman is undergoing hormonal therapy or surgical reconstruction they're taken out of the fight for up to two years.
"That's not fair to the rest of the unit or the taxpayer."
Abraham is a doctor.
Abraham said his stance is strictly one of readiness and isn't based on personal moral beliefs.
"I don't care what two consenting adults do," he said.”
