Healthy meals equal healthy children, better students
U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham got a taste of what local students have for lunch as part of his review of the healthy schools initiative in area schools Monday.
Abraham, R-Alto, plans to visit with numerous schools in the 5th District. On Monday, he kicked off his tour at J.S. Clark Elementary. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway requested agriculture committee members to inspect their schools to determine how well they are implementing the initiative.
"Nutrition is such an integral part of education because a child cannot learn if they are hungry," Abraham said. "A good balanced diet is essential for growth and mental health."
