Congressmen voice support for strengthening military after visits to Barksdale, Fort Polk
Republican U.S. Reps. Mike Johnson and Ralph Abraham pledged their support to Fort Polk and Barksdale Air Force Base after making special visits to both installations this week.
Johnson, of Bossier City, and Abraham, of Alto, toured the bases and met with leadership there to discuss their priorities and needs.
“They’re critically important, not only to the economy of our state here in Louisiana, but also a critical component to our national security,” Johnson said. “Everyone recognizes that and we want to make sure we communicate this very clearly to all of our colleagues in Congress.”
The priorities and challenges encountered by today’s military leadership include manpower and readiness, Johnson said. Modernization of forces is critical to maintaining America’s military superiority in the world, he said.
