Congressman Abraham introduces new bill to help soybean farmers hurt by Chinese tariffs
Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., has introduced a bill to help the soybean farmers after losses caused by Chinese tariffs.
The Market Facilitation Program was introduced earlier this year to help soybean farmers based on their harvested acres.
Abraham's new bill, HR 7147, would allow payments based on 'planted acres' instead.
This would let farmers who could not take their crop to market to participate in the relief program.
Abraham says, "The problem they are facing is not of their making and they should not be forced to bear the heaviest burden caused by market disruptions."
He urges that congress should do the right thing and pass this bill.
