Congressman Abraham: 'Great day for La. rice'
An enormous rice order from Iraq this week has already boosted prices and morale for Louisiana farmers.
Iraq's 90,000 metric ton buy was the country's second order for American long grain milled rice through a new trade agreement or memorandum of understanding between the countries.
"It's a blessing," said Acadiana rice farmer Richard Fontenot, who was named the 2016 Rice Farmer of the Year by the USA Rice Federation and Rice Farming Magazine. "It's already perked up the cash market here and even in futures prices."
