Congressman Abraham: Ag is America's 'thin green line'
Congressman Ralph Abraham likes to call agriculture “America’s thin green line,” and he told about 70 Louisiana farmers who traveled to Washington this week they are integral links in that national security chain.
“Food security is national security,” said Abraham, R-Alto, whose family farms in Richland Parish. “Agriculture is at the forefront of the fight because any interruption in the food supply or a compromise in its safety goes right to the heart of the nation.”
The farmers, all part of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation network throughout the state, embraced the responsibility.
“When I heard that I thought, ‘We need to incorporate that slogan into the Farm Bureau,’” said Caddo Parish cattleman Marty Wooldridge. “When you think about it, there’s nothing more important than preserving and protecting the national food supply.”
