Congressman Ralph Abraham (R-Louisiana) is pushing for Louisiana to be a major part of America's future in space. Abraham's office says the congressman sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting that Louisiana be home to the future headquarters of the United States Space Command.

In the letter, Abraham says, “Should you select Louisiana as the headquarters for Space Command, you can rest assured that you will have picked a state that is open for investment and one that has unique qualities ideally suited to support Space Command’s growth and development."

Abraham cites the many facilities and resources that would support a potential space command headquarters in Louisiana. He says the Air Force Global Strike Command headquarters at Barksdale Air Force Base could play an important role. NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans also has a long history of building NASA vehicles and components, he says. Built in 1940, the facility has been under NASA control since 1961.

“I look forward to working with you on seeing Space Command to the finish line as we take the next step in America’s rich and vibrant history of space exploration and development.”
