Louisiana Rep. Ralph Abraham has joined other Gulf Coast lawmakers in urging federal officials to remove the new director of the South Central VA Health Care Network, which serves veterans in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Abraham, a Republican, and other congressional lawmakers from the region oppose the Department of Veteran Affairs’ decision to transfer Skye McDougall to the post.

McDougall, former director of the Desert Pacific Health Care Network in Southern California, has been accused of giving false testimony to Congress about how long patients had to wait for care at VA facilities.

“Skye McDougall’s appointment shows the VA is more concerned about its high-level employees than the veterans they’re supposed to serve,’’ Abraham, chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs subcommittee, said Tuesday. “Her false testimony to Congress makes her unfit to oversee any VA functions. Veterans across the country have died waiting to receive the care they deserve, yet the VA has held no one accountable.’’
